We are Like Glass...

Jason and Mallorie spent Martin Luther King Junior weekend downtown in Philadelphia with a group of the youth from our church helping out at a food and clothing cupboard and homeless shelter. It is very good work that our church does and it is a very good experience for the kids. While there the group went to the National Libert Museum where they saw an exhibit titled "We are Like Glass". They brought home notecards from the exhibit that tell of the theme, and it touched me enough to want to share

We are like glass

Glass is a reminder of the strength and fragility that exists in every one of us.

Like glass, we are beautiful and luminous.

Like glass, we are fragile and shatter without care.

Like glass, we are also strong and powerful.

Like glass, we shield and protect those around us.

Like glass, we are reflections of our past.

Like the sands of glass, we can come together, help each othr and accomplish amazing things.

Take care of the beauty and strength within yourself and within everyone around you.

Beautiful insights to remember no matter what our age.

bye bye Joe...

Suddenly and shockingly Kevin's dad, Papa Joe, passed away on Tuesday, January 2. Kevin and Mary Elizabeth and I went to Florida to be with family and say goodbye to Papa Joe. The service was held on the beach on Sunday, January 7, Joe's birthday. It was the most beautiful service and everyone was able to remember and celebrate Papa Joe and all that he meant to each of us. The family paddled out to take Papa Joe to sea and Mary Elizabeth and I stayed on the beach with our toes in the water. I picked up the baby and she looked out at the small group out on the water and she said "bye bye Joe."

Joe Keys was a good man. He taught for many years and touched the lives of countless. As Kevin said on the beach at the memorial, he was a teacher, he was a coach and we were lucky enough to have him as a father.
